The H-2B visa allows U.S. employers to hire foreign workers for temporary, non-agricultural jobs. Here's how you can apply for an H-2B job as a job seeker through E-JAM:
Step 1: Register with E-JAM
- Sign Up: Not a member? Register as an E-JAM member here. A $15 membership fee applies to access services, but it does not guarantee job placement.
-
Activate Your Account: After registering, check your email to activate your account. Make sure to:
- Update your resume.
- Use a professional photo.
- Upload certifications (driver’s license, diplomas, etc.). Photo guidelines here.
- Optional Verification: Become an E-JAM Verified Member to improve your resume and profile. For more details click HERE. Note: This does not guarantee a job or affect your chances for H-2B jobs.
Step 2: Apply for Jobs
- Browse Jobs: Visit app.ejamjobs.com to see available positions.
- Review Jobs: Check the job details (skills, pay, location, contract length).
- Apply: Complete the job application form and attach your resume and any proof of experience, or references.
Step 3: Screening and Interviews
- Initial Screening: Employers or E-JAM will review your qualifications.
- Interviews: Be ready for virtual or in-person interviews. Only selected applicants will be contacted.
Step 4: Job Offer and Contract
- Offer Letter: If chosen, you'll receive a job offer with details about the role.
- Sign Contract: Review the terms (pay, duties, etc.) before signing. Ask questions if needed.
Step 5: Visa Appointment
- Complete Form DS-160: After E-JAM receives the employer’s approved petition, you will be instructed to fill out the online visa application form. E-JAM will confirm its accuracy and arrange payment for the fee, usually covered by the employer.
- Visa Appointment: E-JAM will schedule your appointment at the U.S. Embassy in Jamaica.
-
Visa Interview Preparation: Bring required documents:
- Approved petition copy.
- Passport and passport-sized photo.
- Employer documents.
- Any other consulate requests.
Step 6: Travel to the U.S.
- Get Your Visa: If approved, your passport will be stamped with the H-2B visa.
- Coordinate Travel: E-JAM will help arrange travel and confirm your start date.
- Prepare for Arrival: Learn U.S. customs and keep your employer’s contact info handy.
Helpful Tips
- No Placement Fees: E-JAM does not charge placement fees for H-2B jobs. Beware of scammers claiming otherwise.
- Contingent on Petition Approval: Getting an H-2B job depends on the employer receiving an approved petition for the upcoming season. Since employers file petitions about four months before the job's start date (e.g., April 1st), recruiting happens in advance of approval.
- Contact Support: For questions or assistance, reach out to E-JAM Support.
This simple process can help you start your H-2B journey with confidence!
